Internet access
Stay connected
Public Wi-Fi hotspots are relatively scarce in Japan, and the few that do exist are neither fast nor secure. Most “Wi-Fi spots” (areas offering free connection) only cover a very limited range, meaning your connection cuts off as soon as you step outside the zone — forcing you to stay in place while you use it.
To stay connected freely throughout your trip, we offer two convenient options: eSIM and Pocket Wi-Fi.
Simply let your travel advisor know which option you prefer.

eSIM
A simple solution for staying constantly connected to the internet: a virtual SIM card . First, install the app from our partner provider Ubigi and enter the promo code AYUMI10 to get a 10% discount on your plan.
All the instructions for installing your eSim will be displayed and you will be guided step by step.
The cons:
-
Possible incompatibility if your phone or tablet is too old. Please contact us if you are unsure.
-
Once the activation email has been issued, the purchase cannot be cancelled or refunded.
The pros:
-
Fully digital: no risk of losing a SIM card or opening your phone. Installation is done via a download before departure.
-
Peace of mind: no nightly charging needed, nothing extra to carry, and nothing to return at the end of your trip.
-
Unlimited mobile data for heavy use, including video streaming.
-
Option to purchase extra data during your trip.
-
Hotspot sharing available for your travel companions.
-
Technical support in Japan available during your stay if needed.
POCKET WI-FI
A Pocket Wi-Fi is a small device that acts as a portable internet router (similar to an internet box) allowing at least ten devices to connect simultaneously 24 hours a day anywhere in Japan.
We will deliver the Pocket Wi-Fi to the airport or directly to your hotel. The package contains: the Pocket Wi-Fi, a user manual in French, a charging cable, and a prepaid return envelope. At the end of your trip, place everything in the prepaid return envelope and drop it in any mailbox.
The cons:
-
Requires daily recharging
-
Requires staying near the device
-
Heavy usage may lead to a temporary decrease in your connection speed.
-
Terms of use apply
The pros:
-
Compatible with all smartphones and devices using Wi-Fi (phone, tablet, computer...)
-
Multiple users can connect at the same time: from ten to several dozen depending on the model.
-
Unlimited data volume (connection speed may decrease after a certain number of GB used per day, depending on the plan)
-
Ideal if you want to use a computer during your stay
Pocket Wi-Fi usage terms and applicable fees:
Lost or unusable device: between 50USD and 100USD depending on the model (a device not returned within 10 days is considered lost)
Device returned late: 5USD per day of delay (1-day waiting period)
Lost or unusable accessories: at least 10USD depending on the accessory.
You will receive reminders by email and/or online messaging:
- the day your rental ends
If we do not receive the Pocket Wi-Fi signal:
- reminder at day 5 and then at day 8 after the scheduled return date
Q&A
Why use a Pocket Wi-Fi or an eSIM?
Having internet access has become essential for getting around with GPS, checking shop opening hours, or looking up train timetables. It also adds an extra layer of safety for you and your family, and ensures you can stay in constant contact with the AYUMI Voyage team.
How fast is the connection?
Speeds are similar to a 4G+ connection in France, and in some areas even faster.
Can I use the internet everywhere in Japan?
Yes, coverage is nationwide. Even in very rural areas or when riding the subway, disconnections are rare.
Cherry on top
Travellers who choose airport pick-up with a guide can receive their Pocket Wi-Fi directly from them upon arrival — no waiting required.
Alternatively, we can deliver your Pocket Wi-Fi straight to your hotel or have it ready for collection at an airport counter.
