From Okayama to Hiroshima, a journey on the Inland Sea

Four days are sometimes enough to experience very different atmospheres, and that's exactly what this excursion offers, blending traditional charm, nature, and history. From Kurashiki to Hiroshima, via Okayama and the sacred island of Miyajima, you'll follow an itinerary where art, artisanal skills, soothing landscapes, and places steeped in history intertwine.

We recommend the following program:

Day 1 – Kurashiki: historical charm and art

Arrive in Kurashiki and check into your hotel. Begin your exploration in the historic Bikan district, famous for its canals lined with traditional whitewashed houses and elegant bridges. Stroll along the banks, explore the small artisan shops, and enjoy the romantic atmosphere of this well-preserved neighborhood.

After lunch at a local inn, continue with a visit to the Ōhara Museum , Japan's first museum of Western art, which houses works by Monet, Renoir, and Picasso. In the late afternoon, enjoy a leisurely stroll to admire the illuminated streets before dinner at a restaurant serving local specialties.

Day 2 – Okayama: Castle and traditions

Departure for Okayama , the neighboring city. Begin with a visit to Okayama Castle , nicknamed the "Crow Castle" for its black color, offering a magnificent view of the Asahi River. Next, participate in a bizenyaki pottery workshop, a traditional ceramic renowned for its natural beauty and unique hues. After a typical lunch, head to Kōraku-en Garden, ranked among the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. Stroll among the ponds, pavilions, and verdant hills for an immersion in Japanese landscape art. Return to Kurashiki for the night.

Day 3 – Hiroshima: the sacred island of Miyajima

Transfer to Hiroshima and embark on a cruise to Miyajima , the iconic island of Itsukushima Shrine . Admire the famous floating torii gate, explore the shrine grounds, and stroll through the lively alleyways where you can sample local specialties like momiji manju (maple leaf-shaped cakes). For hiking enthusiasts, there's an option to ascend Mount Misen for panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea. Return to Hiroshima at the end of the day and enjoy dinner on your own in the city.

For lunch, enjoy the local version of okonomiyaki prepared with yakisoba at a renowned restaurant. In the afternoon, explore Hiroshima Castle , rebuilt after the war, and then end with a stroll through Shukkei-en Garden , a haven of peace with its bridges, ponds, and miniature landscapes.
